Those that Prepare Properly; Survive, Chapter 24: Properly Preparing Your Property Defensively

You order all your gear, stock pile food, ammo, medical supplies and you even have devised a system to load it all out and when the SHTF comes about your plan is to load ot all up and bug out to a new remote destination to ride out the storm.

That day has come, you got all your supplies and equipment loaded and then for whatever reason, vehicle wont start or things happened faster than you anticipated and now you cant leave. Now, you realize or more accurately you have one of those super major “OH Shit” moments, when you realize you never took into account that something may occur that prevents you from leaving.

That is not a OOPS moment, that is a royal super major “Oh Shit” moment. What are you gonna do now? Too late to start making plan B. Oh you can start but the question is “How efficient is it gonna be? Will it provide you the safety and security to survive thru the event?”

For 24 years in the Army, it was drilled into me that when you stop at a position you dig in and then you never stop improving that position. Joles get deeper, over head cover added to it, reinforced to prevent the walls from having in and such. The better your position the better odds of surviving.

Now is the time to start looking at your home as a defensive position aka your castle. Don't matter whether your in a city or out in the rural farmland. Look at it as a psotion and then start figuring out how to strengthen it as a defensive position.

If your in the rural part of the county, then order some good typographical maps that shows plenty of detail in contour lines, trails, roads, and such. Start with a map reconnaissance of yiur property and identify naturalchoke points, marshes or swampy areas, and such. You can then add to these areas to improve or reinforce natural choke points where it forces any forces that are coming in to be funneled thru these areas. Your creating a “fatal funnel” when means your able to attack them when they are at the most a massed and vulnerable points. They now become the proverbial fish in the barrel.

If your property has ditches running around the primeter, then rent a back hoe and dig them deeper and wider and you get natural anti vehicle ditches.

If you have a ditch that a road or trial crosses, and it is beside a swampy area, you can block off the side away from the swampy area and rig the bridge for destruction and force them into the swamp.

Get a topographical map of your arae and look at the natural contours of the property. Use these natural contours in setting up your defenses.

Remember, when SHTF there will be no police, no laws, no rules all cards will be off the table at that point. So what you cant do today in a civilized world, in a SHTF world it will be all up for grabs.

Defenses of your home is a common sense operation. You have to put yourself in your adversaries position and look at your place and see things the way they will see it. See which avenues offer the least resistance and these areas are where you re enforce at. Look for areas on your home that are the weak links in your defense. Then think about ways to tuffen up those weak areas.

Now, in a summary, one must never get complacent and believe that they will be able to fight off all comers trying to take over your home. Enough people come, it will fall. You must always have a plan B, C, and maybe even D. Have a way out. Plan different escape routes and means. Have go bags ready at hand and have them packed to survive 10 days at least. Have a location to bug out too and hide caches of food water ammo and such near that location but not at the location.

The time to be planning all this and getting things figured out, re enforced, packed up is NOW. Once SHTF times up, it is too late and you and your family will be totally screwed if not dead. This is one project you dont want to precrastinate on.
